SOCIAL MEDIA has gone into meltdown after Derby confirmed that Frank Lampard is on the verge of returning to Chelsea.
The legendary former midfielder won 11 major trophies during his time at Stamford Bridge, becoming the club’s record scorer in the process.
And Lampard is now set for a second spell with the Blues – only this time, he’s in the dug-out.
Derby fired out a tweet on Tuesday afternoon revealing they have given Chelsea permission to speak with Lampard after Maurizio Sarri took the Juventus job.
And fans have been going beserk on Twitter, with many eagerly confirmation of Lampard’s return ahead of the new season.
One said: “Oh my God! OK it’s happening. Everybody stay calm. Stay f*****g calm!”
Another wrote: “Lampard knows better than any other manager what Chelsea stand for.
“Another one would come in, stay for 2-3 years and would leave or get sacked. Lampard is what we need 100 per cent.”
One noted: “I have to say I’m excited and I think Lamps will actually develop our youth, Tammy and Mason and our other prospects might get a real chance to show their worth!”
Another added: “Can’t wait to see Lampard back at the club and patrolling the touchline.”
