Former Quebec television host and producer Éric Salvail, facing a charge of sexual assault, has decided to seek trial by judge alone.
Salvail’s decision was announced by his lawyer in court on Monday. The accused was not present.
Charged with sexual assault, criminal harassment and forcible confinement, Salvail originally sought trial by jury but exercising the right to do so, he changed that choice to trial by judge alone.
The trial has been set for Feb. 17 and is expected to last for three days.
Evidence presented to the court thus far is protected by a publication ban.
However, the name of the alleged victim in the case, Donald Duguay, who is now 46 years old, can be revealed at the request of Duguay himself.
The acts allegedly committed by the 50-year-old Salvail date from 1993 and the circumstances surrounding them will only become public once testimony is given during the trial.
