QUEBEC — Documents were stolen from Immigration Minister Simon Jolin-Barrette’s official ministerial vehicle Wednesday evening while it was parked under an office building.
The minister was working in his office, in Quebec City’s Complexe G tower, at the time of the robbery, the Cogeco news network reported.
The nature of the documents is not known. The minister is to address the media later Thursday morning.
The investigation has been handed over to the Sûreté du Québec, which issued a statement stating only that “the owner of the vehicle is a member of the National Assembly.”
One man who was acting suspiciously was stopped by police. He is alleged to have had documents in his possession. There have been reports the doors of the vehicle were unlocked.
It is the second bit of bad news for the minister, who this week had to apologize for botched reforms to the Quebec Experience Program.
