A 38-year-old reportedly turned himself into the Montreal police Saturday afternoon and informed them he had attacked his wife in their Salaberry-de-Valleyfield home.
Sûreté du Québec officers entered the house on Verner St. and found the woman motionless around 3 p.m. Her death was confirmed at the scene.
Police won’t say how the woman was killed or where the suspect is being detained, but the SQ is in charge of the investigation as the apparent homicide took place on its territory about 70 kilometres west of the island.
“The crime scene is fresh, we’re really in the early stages on the investigation,” said Sgt. Eloïse Cossette of the SQ. “All we know is a man drove to a Montreal police station, said: ‘I attacked my wife,’ and the Montreal police called the SQ to follow up.
“He’ll definitely be meeting with our investigators.”
