The STM will be forced to redirect buses and close two downtown streets as it begins work to renovate the McGill métro station, replacing its waterproof membrane, installing two elevators and adding a new entrance.
Starting Monday, de Maisonneuve Blvd. W. will be completely closed to traffic from just west of Union Ave. to McGill College Ave. Robert-Bourassa Blvd. will also be closed at de Maisonneuve Blvd. The disruption will continue until December before it reopens for the winter, and will close again from March to December 2021.
Westbound vehicles will be detoured to René-Lévesque Blvd., while northbound vehicles on Robert-Bourassa Blvd. will be detoured to Mansfield St.
The street closings will affect all STM buses serving the McGill métro station. Buses 15 Ste-Catherine and 125 Ontario will be detoured to Président-Kennedy Ave., while buses 35 Griffintown, 61 Wellington and 168 Cité-du-Havre will end their eastbound/northbound service at René-Lévesque Blvd., and begin their westbound/southbound service at the Square-Victoria—OACI métro station.
Finally, the western entrances to the station will be closed through the renovation — the entrance outside the BNP Paribas building at 811 de Maisonneuve Blvd. W. will close Monday, while the entrance at the Eaton Centre will close in mid-March. Customers will be redirected through the Ailes de la Mode shopping mall.
